Maintaining Health & Fitness During the Holidays

The holidays are upon us and that means one thing and one thing only: FOOD!

Okay well food, drink, extra pounds, tryptophan, cold weather, and all of the other things that make the holidays great and not so great at the same time. And while we should all indulge a bit and enjoy the holidays and all that come with it, we should also maintain our health and keep our fitness goals in mind.

So we’ve come up with a few suggestions for staying healthy this holiday season:

Create a Holiday Workout Routine

Sounds crazy right? You already have a workout routine! But let’s face it, with holiday planning comes lots or prep time, balancing extra work before your break (if you get one!), social obligations, and a whole lot of fun that’s going to cut in to your exercise routine. So why not be realistic? Create an abridged version of your usual routine – maybe cutting it in half? - and stick to it through the rest of the year! This way you still get exercise without feeling overwhelmed, and you don’t have to play a balancing act when it comes to your health and your holiday fun.

Drink Water

Don’t forget to hydrate! Yes, water is essential when it comes to our wellbeing. It speeds up metabolism, flushes out bacteria, and makes up more than 50% of our body weight. When having a few drinks during your festivities remember to alternate a glass of water between each beverage.

Add Protein to your Diet

Yes, replace fat and calories with protein! You’re going to have a lot of fat and calories this holiday season regardless of what we say, but adding protein to your diet will curb hunger and essentially help you eat less. It’s good for your bones, increases metabolism, lowers blood pressure, and increases muscle mass and strength. We don’t recommend going on a strict red meat diet or anything of that nature - this can lead to all sorts of problems. Incorporate greek yogurt, almonds, broccoli, cottage cheese and oats into your diet, and any of JBN’s protein supplements. We have everything from plant based protein to flavored whey protein!

Sleep

Lack of sleep and stress go hand in hand! Too much stress (which, despite how much we love our families, we’re going to experience during the holidays) interrupts our sleep habits, and not sleeping enough makes us irritable and more stressed out! Try meditation (if there’s time!), or reading before going to bed (an actual book, not on a screen!), and consider our Dream Support supplement - the perfect blend of herbs and botanicals to help you relax and get the rest you need.

Give your Immune System A Boost

Keeping your immune system in check is key to staying healthy during the holidays! Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, get enough rest, exercise, drink water, and take your vitamins! And be sure to start your day with JBN’s Immune Support! It’s delicious, and packed with the best ingredients to keep you healthy!

Don’t Overeat (Try Not to Anyway!)

If you overeat you’re going to gain weight! And you’re probably going to overeat, because holiday cooking and dessert is the best! But try not to, okay? That’s the best we can do!

Happy Holidays!
