New to Working Out? Here's Some Guidance so you Don't Lose Interest
It’s been proven again and again that regular exercise is beneficial to both body and mind, and crucial to maintaining good overall health. The most challenging part is getting started and sticking to it. Any type of exercise, whether it’s running, lifting weights, yoga, martial arts, or diving into a swimming pool for some laps for the first time, is going to be extremely challenging. It may feel like you’ll never be able to reach the heights of some of your friends, or favorite athletes, but everyone starts somewhere, and keep in mind that even the most intense athletes started exactly where you are now.
It’s an uphill battle, and may seem impossible, but we assure you that you can do it. Here are some tips to stay interested, and keep yourself going!
Remember Why You Started in the First Place
Whether you started exercising to lose weight, increase strength, or just improve your health, consider all of the reasons you began before you consider quitting. Then do some research into how exercise can improve your life. Some of the benefits of exercise include reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, colon cancer, and breast cancer for starters. Working out also improves sleep, reduces pain from joint conditions like arthritis, and strengthens your muscles and bones. In addition to all of these benefits, it also helps combat depression and anxiety. And when you exercise you look and feel better, boosting your confidence and improving your self-image.
Pace Yourself
This is not to say don’t challenge yourself, but setting a good pace for beginners is the best way to stick to it. Begin exercising three days a week and for 10-15 minutes a day. Each week add a day, more reps, an extra half-mile, an additional 3-5 minutes, or whatever measure works best for your particular workout. Within time you’ll have a regular routine that works for you, and you’ll look back to your first day of training and smile at how far you’ve come.
Find an Exercise You Enjoy
Maybe running or lifting weights is too boring for you, maybe you hate team sports, or you feel the gym is just a drag. There are so many options, and numerous ways to workout. Find something that works for you, or find ways to make something that seems tedious at first, fun. Consider wearing headphones while working out, this can boost your mood and transform your routine and outlook. Consider something you can do with friends, or if you’re driven by competition, try training for a marathon or anything that measures your ability to go up against other people. Consider hiking, running on nature trails, playing sports, anything that peaks your interest.
Incorporate Supplements into your Routine
