How to Improve Endurance for Better Workouts
Running out of breath after sprinting up the stairs? Winded after a brief uphill walk through your neighborhood? You’re not alone! Endurance is a key element in getting the most out of your workouts, allowing you to exercise for longer periods of time, and ensuring you’re getting the best results. Without building endurance, even simple tasks like a quick run around the corner can wear you out.
But improving endurance isn’t simply pushing yourself to train longer, or forcing yourself to go until you collapse. There’s an art to improving endurance, and it involves a few different types of exercise and the right endurance supplements to boost energy and stamina. And not only will you have better workouts, but better endurance reduces risk of injury and makes you stronger.
Here are some tips for improving endurance and stamina:
Incorporate Strength Training into Your Routine When Doing Cardio
While running, cycling, and swimming are great cardio workouts that will improve endurance to an extent, adding in some strength training will help improve your stamina even more. Try lifting some weights, doing a few sets of pushups, and some burpees, then jump on your bike or hit the running track. Building muscles while doing cardio works your heart and your cardiovascular system more than just doing one or the other, building endurance at a faster pace.
Add Intervals to Your Workout
High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a great way to boost endurance and maximize your routine. When running, cycling, or doing almost any exercise you can imagine, add short intervals (anywhere from 10-30 seconds) of intense, fast-paced rounds and alternate it with normal or slower periods of your chosen workout.
Try These Supplements
Radical Fuel is a blend of essential vitamins and minerals that hydrate your cells, increase endurance, and fend off tissue damage allowing for longer workout sessions and faster recovery.
JBN’s Krank'd™ Body Fuel – Electrolyte Replenisher, is loaded with electrolytes, and only 5-10 calories (depending on your flavor preference). It contains the ideal amount of amino acids; taurine, tyrosine, l-glutamine, and beta-alanine, improving performance and giving your body a boost. The result is higher endurance, better mental focus, and improved recovery time.
L-Glutamine Vanilla gives your immune system a boost through muscular detoxification, and fending off free radicals. It improves recovery time and restores glutamine levels in your body after intense workouts, improving your endurance, and fighting off ailments.
Avoid Routine
Allowing your body to get used to one exercise routine means your endurance will only improve to a certain level and ultimately stop. Try incorporating different workouts to your regimen, even attempting different exercise classes or mixing in martial arts or sports that work your body in different ways. Working different muscles and moving your body in various ways allows it to get stronger and boosts your stamina.
Get Some Sleep
Allowing your body to get the rest it needs means you’ll have more energy to work out harder and for longer periods of time. Depending on your body and age, somewhere between 7-9 hours of sleep a night should be enough to leave you refreshed for the next day.
