Effective Outdoor Exercises For Those Who Love The Sun
Winter’s finally wrapping up and it’s time to unravel that New Year’s Resolution you made a few months back and take it outdoors. The days are getting longer, the snow’s melting away, and warmer weather is on the rise. Hopefully a bad case of cabin fever hasn’t put you down for the count, because we have the perfect outdoor exercises to make the most of the coming spring weather.
Benefits of Exercising Outdoors
Exercising outside in the sun has many benefits. For one, no equipment is required. That’s right, no gym membership, no buying dumbbells or machines, no carrying heavy weights around. This also means no spending money, and we all know a gym membership can loosen the weight of your wallet by quite a few pounds (not the kind of weight we’re looking to shed!). The outdoors is your playground – cliche right? But seriously, you can workout anywhere. And lastly, the benefits of the sun! Not only is being outdoors in the sun proven to improve your mood, but it can also increase your body’s production of vitamin D which is often associated with better mental health. Convinced? We thought so!
Here are some great exercises to help you take advantage of all the doors has to offer:
Running/Sprinting/Jogging
Whether you choose to do long distance running, sprinting, jogging, or speed walking, the outdoors has got you covered. You can take a stroll over to your local track and monitor your miles, or you can take to the streets with natural inclines and challenges you can’t possibly recreate on a treadmill. Cardio is king!
Push Ups
An essential for your chest, biceps, shoulders and core, the push up is a classic you can bring anywhere. Do repeated reps of 10, 15, or 20, depending on what your preference is, on a flat surface.
Dips
Perfect for your triceps and shoulders, locate the nearest park bench and put it to work. Sit with your hands beside your hips, slide your butt forward off the bench and support yourself with your hands. Bend your elbows until they’re at 90 degrees then back up to the starting position. Now repeat!
Burpees
Yes, you can bring the dreaded burpee outdoors! Burpees are hard to do and exhausting, but they are one of the most highly effective exercises for burning fat. They build muscle strength and endurance in both your lower and upper body – including your legs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, arms, chest, and shoulders. They also put your heart and lungs to work supplying more energy to your muscles. Did you know Burpees are named for their inventor Royal Burpee? Fun fact!
Of course this is just a sampling of what you can accomplish outdoors. Maybe there are a set of stairs you can use for sprinting up and down, or if you own a bike there may be a local trail you can turn into your course. The neighborhood is yours, get outside and use it!
And don’t forget to combine your workout with your favorite JBN supplements! Whether it’s our Krank’d Body Fuel for maximum endurance or our post workout Recovery Fuel, we’ve got you covered. And always consult with a medical professional before trying a new workout regimen!
Stay safe and healthy!
